Percussionist, Singer and Composer. Based in Toronto, Canada. Born in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. Classical trained In Orchestral Percussion and Piano. She graduated with honours from University of Arts in Havana, Cuba. Composer and arranger for many bands and Performing Arts Companies in Cuba like PerCuba Ensemble; Aceituna sin Hueso; Teatro de la luna(Moon Theatre); Macuba Teatro; Folklorico Cutumba(AfroCuban Dance Company); among others. In 2007 visited Australia as a teacher training students from different ages and musical levels, creating a Cuban Music Department and Jazz/Mambo Orchestras in different schools. Performed and recorded with prestigious musicians like James Morrison, Mark Isaacs and the band The Cat Empire. Moved to Canada in 2014 to record and tour with the well known Jane Bunnett as part of the to be JUNO Award Winner female jazz band Maqueque in 2015; The Battle of Santiago; The Rhythm Express; founded her project OKAN; among others. Performed and shared stages with different artists such as Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Brian Blade, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ingrid Jensen, Hilario Duran, Eric Saint-Laurent; Paquito de Rivera; Arturo Sandoval; David Virelles; among others. Performed in Venues and Festivals such as Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco,CA; Miami Jazz Festival; Montreal Jazz Festival; The Blue Note; Birdland; The Kennedy Center; The Lincoln Center; Koerner Hall; Sydney Opera House, Australia; etc. Chosen to be part of a Jury at the Hit Like A Girl 2017 world contest placed in Los Angeles, CA. Been playing percussion for over 20 years she is a specialist in World Percussion and Drumming and recognized not only for playing and recording with great musicians but also her World Percussion Workshops and teaching work at different schools.
