Singing Lessons

Voices are the most natural way to express ourselves musically without an instrument. Singing lessons help you develop vocal technique, expand your range, and build confidence. You can explore different musical styles, learn your favourite Taylor Swift song, write lyrics, or refine your vocal prowess for operatic arias. Singing is a powerful tool for stress relief, self-expression, and making social connections, You can pursue it as a fulfilling hobby or artistic pursuit at any age.

Singing Lessons for Children

Singing Lessons for Kids | On the Off Beat Music School

Our singing lessons for kids are fun and engaging. We develop musical skills, boost confidence, and encourage self-expression. Learning new songs can boost memory, improve concentration and cognitive skills.

Our teachers introduce essential vocal techniques, such as breath control, pitch accuracy, and tone production, to young learners in a supportive and interactive environment. Lessons often include warm-ups, simple exercises, and songs suited to their age and ability. Whether a child dreams of performing on stage or wants to sing for fun, our structured lessons can provide a strong foundation for their musical journey.

Generally, children over the age of 8 are developmentally ready for private singing lessons. However, we have occasionally accepted younger students. The singing lessons last 1/2 hour, and we schedule them on the same day each week. We offer engaging lessons and encourage them to join our rock bands and other ensembles. As their skills improve, the teacher might require longer sessions.

Singing Lessons for Adults

Whether you’re starting fresh or rediscovering your love for music, our tailored singing lessons will help unlock your voice’s full potential. We offer flexible adult singing lesson packages to accommodate busy schedulesSome of our adult students are members of school and community choirs or perform professionally with musical theatre companies. Their lessons focus on improving technique or preparing for auditions. Others already know how to play an instrument and want to learn pitch accuracy, tonal control and breath management.

Our Voice Studio

Singing lessons are held in our light-filled voice studio, which also doubles as the violin studio. We have a piano that teachers use to accompany students during their lessons.

Singing and Voice Teachers

All our teachers have at least one postgraduate music degree and several years of teaching experience. You will learn the basics and proper technique of singing, as well as note reading, rhythm and theory. They will help you meet your personal goals and develop a deep love for music. If you’re interested in singing a specific style of music, we’ll match you with a teacher who specializes in it. As you advance through the levels and master the technical aspects of singing, your teacher can help you explore different musical styles by ear or by reading music sheets. We will even help you compose and write music if that interests you!

Starting Singing Lessons

To get started, we recommend purchasing a trial lesson package, allowing you to try out lessons with different teachers to find the perfect fit. From there, you can enrol in regular term lessons. Your teacher will assess your skill level and recommend music books available from our online music bookstore.

How Long Does It Take To Sing Properly?

Every child is different; however, kids’ brains are wired to learn quickly. Our voice teachers will work at your child’s pace to keep them engaged and enthusiastic. Children typically learn to sing simple songs within the first few lessons.

Here’s a fun fact about practice: According to forward-thinking Canadian journalist Malcolm Gladwell, it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become a world expert on anything! Singing trains your voice, breath and ear to work together. The only way to become proficient is through daily practice. Making time daily to practice what your child learns in school will help them quickly reach the 10,000 hours required to become world-class singers!

Performances & Recitals

Performing is an essential stage in a student’s singing journey. We provide opportunities for singers to perform at our Spring and Winter recitals, community events, and our “Music and Munchies” mini recitals. These opportunities help keep students motivated and build their confidence. As a voice student, you will perform with a professional accompanist.
