Electronic Music For Kids

Electronic Music | On The Off Beat Music School

Electronic music can be an exciting journey for kids. This class is for children aged 10 and up who are interested in learning how to DJ, produce, record, and create their own beats. Our electronic lessons are one-on-one sessions! Your child receives the teacher’s full attention, allowing them to learn and retain each lesson effectively.

We will introduce rhythm, mixing, and sound design to foster both artistic expression and problem-solving. They will blend creativity with technical skills using accessible software and hardware designed for beginners. With audio, MIDI, effects and automation, they will learn how to create musical chords, beats, melodies and more. Activities such as remixing popular songs with warping and sampling will enhance their skills. We also teach workflow project synthesis, song structure, and song transcription. They will learn the basics of mixing and compression, as well as EQ audio effects.

Beyond just fun, it helps them develop confidence, collaboration, and an appreciation for music in a dynamic, hands-on way. Who knows, today’s playful DJ sessions might pave the way for tomorrow’s musical innovators.

Electronic Music for Adults

Electronic Music for Adults | On The Off Beat Music School

Learning electronic music isn’t just for kids—adults can dive into it at any stage of life. Many individuals find it a great creative outlet. Plus, with modern technology, you don’t need a high-end studio. With a laptop and some dedication, we can help you get started. Our adult piano lesson packages are flexible, accommodating busy schedules. We recommend weekly or bi-weekly 45-minute lessons for adults to maximize the benefits of each session.

Our Electronic Music Studio

Our studio is equipped with high-end Rocket 5 speakers, cables, Ableton Push, MIDI keyboard and a DJ desk.

Starting Electronic Lessons

We recommend starting with a trial lesson package. These are designed to help you select the right teacher who can assist you in meeting your personal goals. From there, you can sign up for regular term classes.

Our Electronic Music Teachers

Our electronic music lessons are taught by Toronto’s up-and-coming DJs and producers, who are professional musicians in their own right. Your child will learn the theory behind the music they want to create. Our teachers have at least one postgraduate music degree, are professional performers and have several years of teaching experience to help you learn and develop a love of music.

Electronic Lesson Books

Your teacher will recommend music books once they assess your learning level during the first lesson or two. You may purchase the books from our online music bookstore. They can help you explore different musical styles, accompanied by corresponding learning materials, as you progress through the levels.

How Long Does it Take to Learn Electronic Music?

Everyone learns at a different pace. Our music teachers work at the students’ pace to keep them engaged and enthusiastic. Generally, students can create simple tracks within the first few lessons.

Developing a regular routine to review what you learn during your lessons will help you progress steadily through the levels. Here’s a fun fact about practice: According to forward-thinking Canadian journalist Malcolm Gladwell, it takes 10,000 hours to become a world expert on anything! Daily practice is the key to becoming proficient and will help students quickly reach the 10,000 hours required to become world-class DJs and electronic music creators.

Performances & Recitals

Performing is an essential element of musical learning, and our students have numerous opportunities to perform at our Spring and Winter recitals, community events, and our Music and Munchies mini-recitals. These opportunities help keep students motivated and build their confidence.
