Shilpa Sharma is a mezzo-soprano based in Toronto. She holds a Master of Music degree from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montreal. Throughout her education she has had the opportunity to study with top singers from Canada, the United States, and Europe.
Shilpa has been teaching voice for many years. Her own journey in becoming a singer began with musical theatre when she was very young. Her teaching method incorporates repertoire from many different genres including musical theatre, pop, and classical. As an active performer, Shilpa encourages her students to take every opportunity to perform for others. She has successfully prepared students for auditions, festivals, competitions, and RCM exams.
Shilpa also maintains a busy schedule as a performing artist. In the summer of 2012, She appeared as Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the Halifax Summer Opera Workshop, where her performance “…[brought] down the house…” (The Coast). She has performed leading roles in many operas and has performed in many recitals.
